Is The Nook Losing Ground On The Kindle?

The Nook Simple Touch ebook reader, from Barnes and Noble, is consider by many pundits to be the best touch screen ebook reader on the market today. However, as far as the Kindle Touch vs Nook Touch contest goes, Amazon seems to be winning – by some way.
In a very positive announcement, Amazon confirmed that Kindle sales hit one million units per week during December of 2011. The Kindle was also confirmed to be the best selling item on the French, German, Spanish, Italian and UK Amazon websites. Barnes and Noble advised that sales of their Nook Simple Touch had not met their predicted levels. B&N subsequently clarified this by saying that Nook Touch sales were 70% up on the sales of Nook readers for the same period last year, going on to state that the problem was an overly optimistic sales estimate rather than low sales levels as such.
However, Barnes and Noble’s somewhat gloomy news, combined with the revelation that B&N might consider splitting off their Nook sales from physical book sales resulted Barnes and Noble’s share price taking a sharp dip.
